Kiln Stables Farnham Riding School and Livery, located in Surrey, is the only British Horse Society approved riding school in the Farnham area. We offer professional tuition in classical riding not just pony rides. Kiln Stables offers lessons, hacking and more on talented reliable home-trained horses and ponies.
We welcome all horse lovers from 5 years through to mature people looking to ride for pleasure and everything in between! We also train experienced riders to improve their dressage, showjumping or cross country skills together with apprenticeship schemes and British Horse Society exam training for all those wanting to work in the horse industry.
We work alongside Guildford College and land based training providers such as Keits to enable National Vocational Qualifications through Modern Apprenticeship Schemes in horse riding and stable management examinations and practicals for many young students and have done this since 1992.
Originally, Kiln Stables was born in the mid eighties in Farnham when it formed a base for the Farnham Riders Club. We were used to running many competitions and rallies in and around the area at Tweseldown, Merrist Wood College in dressage, show jumping and cross country jumping. Increasingly I was asked to give riding lessons to children and adults in the Farnham area so I fomed the Riding School in 1990. This grew and then excelled as a British Horse Society Centre in Badshot Lea, Farnham which was known as Kiln Cottage Stables. We stayed there until 2005 when we felt that we needed a better facility to ride in the forest without riding on the road so we moved to Holt Pound, Farnham situated near Alice Holt Forest, Frensham Common and The Bourne Woods. It is a beautiful Farnham location for all riders wishing to enjoy group or private riding lessons or the English countryside.
We have trained many riders and horses over the last 23 years and have about 27 horses available now ranging from 17hh event or dressage horses down through to general cobs and then small ponies for the children. Most of the horses here have been with us a very long time and know their job.
The companionship and team spirit of all that come into contact with horses is held here in abundance. We are a very happy stables with a wonderful atmosphere for all to come with or without their own horse. If you have your own horse or would like one, you can find information about livery, breaking, schooling and shares under ”Horse Services”
Our training ethic is to be able to smell the ‘learning in the air’. Something that has been passed down through all the amazing trainers that have helped make Kiln Stables something special. Trainers of note would be Pammy Hutton FBHS Talland and Pammy’s Mother’s books ’Thinking Riding’ by Molly Sivewright FBHS and lastly the late Ernest Scattergood, renowned Army Horseman RMP.
